Whenever you use Chlorine in your pool or spa the sun will turn it back to salt rather quickly. You must use a chlorine stabilizer and keep it between 50 to 80 ppm. This will drastically slow down the process of your chlorine being burned up. If you notice your chlorine is dissappearing rapidly have your stabilizer (CYA) checked or buy a stabilizer test kit in our maintence section. Note: If you are using chlorine or a salt water chlorinator (chlorine generator) you must keep the stabilizer between 50 to 80 ppm. Chlorine Tablets have stabilzer built into them to replenish what is lost, but it may not be enough. Have it checked at least monthly. MYTH: It is a myth that the chlorine dissappears in the air after is does it job. After it does it jobs and kills the bacteria it turns back into salt (sodium chloride). This is why a salt water chlorinator is so effective. It keeps using this salt to make more chlorine. On an indoor pool you do not need stabilizer since there is no sunlight to deplete your chlorine. |
